Abstract: This review addresses the questionable practice of adding a subtitle to an author’s work after his death, and questions the terms employed in this newly added subtitle. It then enquires into the omission of mention a place from the author’s 1961 published account of the 1565 siege. The omission of a settlement that at the time of the siege was known as, Burmola, the location of the “Campo di Turchi”, the Ottoman-Muslim camp after the taking of Fort St. Elmo on the 23rd of June 1565. It suggests the reason for the omission of this toponym from this book was due to the author’s relationship with the politics in Malta at the time the book was being written in the late 1950’s, it being the birthplace and power base of Dom Mintoff. The consequences of the omission of this toponym from this historical bestseller have had consequences over the past 60 years in peoples’ perception of the city and of the history of Burmola/Bormla/Cospicua, and have had consequences in terms of the preservation of heritage in this city.

Keywords: Great Siege Malta 1565, Burmola, Bormola, Bormla, Ernle Bradford, Francesco Balbi di Correggio, Dom Mintoff

Abstract: This study critically evaluates the article titled “The Beats Characteristics of a Rare Caria Coin and Its Place in Caria Coins”. Here, the article focuses on the erroneous and wrong points encountered in terms of Ancient History and Numismatic method and knowledge. These errors and mistakes result from the lack of basic Ancient History and Numismatic knowledge and the incomprehensibility or misunderstanding of the terms and concepts associated with them. It is seen that the content of the article title and sub-titles are largely incompatible, and historical information is included with examples of money and coins that have nothing to do with the subject of the article, and numismatic methods are not used when evaluating the subject coin. In addition, narrative disorder and inadequate expression make it difficult to understand the subject.

Abstract: Firstly, this review enquires into the meaning of the term West Asia employed in the title of this book of conference proceedings and finds it carries a confusion of meanings in respect to the geographical area and the countries that are indicated through the use of this modern term. Secondly this review suggests that the statement that the constructional materials employed determines the difference between Great Seljuk and Rum Seljuk architecture fails to address the matter of the finished appearance of these buildings and, in part has been made possible through the modern mis-translations of the words mâhir ressâmlar recorded in a primary source describing the external appearance of Rum Seljuk architecture. To state that the scale of buildings in Seljuk Iran were greater than those of Rum Seljuk Anatolia, without establishing the size of the respective Muslim urban populations, 80% to about 10%, and the length of time that there was a population of Muslim inhabitants in a Muslim ruled country, respectively of more than 500 years to less than 200 years is likewise misleading, as is the statement that the Christians were minorities in Seljuk-Turkish ruled territory in 13th c. Anatolia.

Abstract: This study introduces five new epitaphs of cylindrical form found in Cibyra and the Gölhisar, district of Burdur. The four of the stelae are mostly well preserved. The fourth one has a missing part on the front upper part with its inscription and is kept the excavation house which was brought there from the garden of the Governmental Building of the province in Gölhisar. Other three stelae (nos. 1, 2, 3) are found during an archaeological drilling in front of the arch, on the pavement of the main street, and they can be seen at the entrance of the stadium. The last one (no. 5) is found on the western side of the odeium and stands now in the stone field in front of the theatre. All the inscriptions are dated from the style of lettering employed. The characterization of the letters is known from the inscriptions found at Cibyra of which the dates are known.

Keywords: Epitaph, Stelae, Cibyra, Gölhisar

Abstract: This study introduces eight epitaphs found during the field survey and excavations carried out in both Cibyra and its territory within 2012-2013 and brought to the excavation house. The first belongs to Ammia set up by her friend Helike. The second is for Eirene, wife of Epithymetos. The third is for Polla, wife for Troilos. The fourth is a funerary altar for Ammia, daughter of Pankrates, with garlands and bukranion. The fifth is for the parent of Lucius and Titus. And other two are for wife of Trophimos and for the parents of Cl. Logos. The last one is of round altar shape with garlands, also it is unknown by/for whom it was set this up. All the inscriptions are dated between the Ist century BC and IIIrd century AD taking into account the characterization of the letters of the inscriptions and the ornamental studies.
