Carpini\u2019yi kendisinden \u00f6nce Mo\u011fol \u00fclkesine giden di\u011fer el\u00e7ilerden ay\u0131ran fark ise, yolculu\u011fu esnas\u0131nda tuttu\u011fu not\u00adlar\u0131 kitapla\u015ft\u0131rm\u0131\u015f olmas\u0131d\u0131r. Bu yaz\u0131m\u0131zda Carpini\u2019nin eserinin T\u00fcrk\u00e7eye \u00e7evirisi mercek alt\u0131na al\u0131nacakt\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mo\u011fol istilas\u0131n\u0131n yaratt\u0131\u011f\u0131 psikolojik tahribat\u0131n en \u00f6nemli sebebi, ortaya \u00e7\u0131\u00adkan bilgi kirlili\u011fi olarak g\u00f6ze batmaktad\u0131r. Mo\u011follar\u0131 bir muamma olmaktan \u00e7\u0131karacak malumat\u0131 ise Papa\u2019ya ve Hristiyan d\u00fcnyas\u0131na ula\u015ft\u0131rmak amac\u0131yla hareket eden piskopos Carpini, sundu\u011fu e\u015fsiz bilgilerle eserini seyahatname\u00adnin s\u0131n\u0131rlar\u0131 d\u0131\u015f\u0131na \u00e7\u0131kartmaktad\u0131r. Her \u015feyden \u00f6nce salt gezi amac\u0131yla kaleme al\u0131nmayan eserin birden fazla amac\u0131n tahakkukuna hizmet etti\u011fi a\u015fik\u00e2rd\u0131r. Carpini seyahatinde Hristiyanl\u0131\u011f\u0131 h\u00e2kim k\u0131lmak, Mo\u011follar hakk\u0131nda istihbarat elde etmek ve bilinmeyen Do\u011fu\u2019yu bilinir k\u0131lmak, kast\u0131yla hareket etmekte\u00addir. Eserin yaz\u0131lma amac\u0131n\u0131n \u00e7ok y\u00f6nl\u00fc olmas\u0131; yazar\u0131n\u0131n benzer bir profil \u00e7iz\u00admesine neden olmaktad\u0131r. Carpini misyoner, casus, asker, co\u011frafyac\u0131, antro\u00adpolog ve tarih\u00e7i kisvelerine b\u00fcr\u00fcnerek a\u00e7m\u0131\u015f oldu\u011fu alt ba\u015fl\u0131klarla okuyana, yazd\u0131klar\u0131yla g\u00f6r\u00fcnt\u00fcn\u00fcn tamam\u0131n\u0131 sunma gayretini g\u00f6stermekte\u00addir. Anlat\u0131\u00adlan tutumun daha iyi anla\u015f\u0131lmas\u0131 ad\u0131na Carpini\u2019nin kendi dilinden eserin yaz\u0131l\u0131\u015f amac\u0131 \u015f\u00f6yle belirtilmi\u015ftir: \u201c<em>Amac\u0131m\u0131z en az\u0131ndan Mo\u011follar\u0131n ger\u00e7ek ni\u00adyet ve planlar\u0131n\u0131 \u00f6\u011frenip, bunlar\u0131 Hristiyanlara bildirerek, ani bir sald\u0131r\u0131 duru\u00admunda, ge\u00e7mi\u015fte oldu\u011fu gibi haz\u0131rl\u0131ks\u0131z yakalanmalar\u0131n\u0131 \u00f6nlemektir <\/em>(s. 32)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Orta\u00e7a\u011f Avrupas\u0131\u2019na bir\u00e7ok y\u00f6nden damgas\u0131n\u0131 vuran kilisenin entelekt\u00fcel z\u00fcmresine mensup olan Carpini, kendisini \u00e7ok iyi geli\u015ftirmi\u015f ve bu g\u00f6rev i\u00e7in Papa taraf\u0131ndan \u00f6zellikle hizmeti olaca\u011f\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcncesiyle g\u00f6revlendirilmi\u015ftir. Do\u00ad\u011fumu 1182 olarak tahmin edilen Carpini, Fransisken tarikat\u0131na ba\u011fl\u0131 bir rahip olarak \u00f6mr\u00fcn\u00fc s\u00fcrd\u00fcrm\u00fc\u015ft\u00fcr. Hayat\u0131n\u0131n en \u00f6nemli yolculu\u011fu olan seyahati ise bize Mo\u011follar\u0131n tarih ve k\u00fclt\u00fcr\u00fc ba\u015fta olmak \u00fczere bir\u00e7ok ko\u00adnuda \u00e7ok \u00f6nemli bilgiler sunmu\u015ftur. 1245 y\u0131l\u0131nda yolculu\u011funa ba\u015flay\u0131p, 1247 y\u0131l\u0131nda \u00fclkesine d\u00f6nen Carpini, el\u00e7ilik g\u00f6revi m\u00fcnasebetiyle Mo\u011fol Han\u0131\u2019na Papa\u2019n\u0131n mektubunu ula\u015ft\u0131r\u0131rken, Han\u2019\u0131n cevab\u0131n\u0131 i\u00e7eren mektubu da Pa\u00adpa\u2019ya iletmi\u015ftir. Lyon\u2019da ba\u015flayan bu iki y\u0131ll\u0131k yolculuk, Polonya ve Rusya \u00fcze\u00adrinden Asya\u2019n\u0131n i\u00e7lerine, bug\u00fcnk\u00fc Mo\u011folistan\u2019a kadar uzanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Yolculuk olduk\u00e7a me\u015fakkatli bir hal alm\u0131\u015f ve s\u0131rf bu y\u00f6n\u00fc bile esere yer yer bir macera roman\u0131 havas\u0131 katm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Eserde anlat\u0131lanlar\u0131n ger\u00e7ekli\u011fini kan\u0131tlamak isteyen Carpini, bu \u015fekilde olu\u015facak olumsuz yarg\u0131lar\u0131n \u00f6n\u00fcne ge\u00e7mek i\u00e7in ayr\u0131 bir ba\u015fl\u0131kla seyahatine tan\u0131kl\u0131k edenlerden bahsetmi\u015ftir. Zaten anlat\u0131n\u0131n geneli de ele al\u0131nd\u0131\u011f\u0131nda Carpini\u2019nin s\u0131k s\u0131k \u201c<em>bize yemin ederek anlatanlara g\u00f6re<\/em>\u201d \u015fek\u00adlinde ifadeleriyle ger\u00e7eklik a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan s\u00f6ylediklerini peki\u015ftirme ihtiyac\u0131 his\u00adset\u00admi\u015ftir. \u00d6zellikle seyahatnamenin ba\u015f\u0131nda Carpini\u2019nin \u015fu s\u00f6zleri bahsedilen konuya destek mahiyetindedir:<em> \u201cBizim memleketimizde bilinmeyen baz\u0131 \u015fey\u00adleri, sadece okuyucular\u0131m\u0131z\u0131n merak\u0131n\u0131 gidermek i\u00e7in yazm\u0131\u015fsak, l\u00fctfen bizi yalanc\u0131l\u0131kla itham etmeyin, \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc size anlatt\u0131klar\u0131m\u0131z ya \u015fahsen g\u00f6rd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcm\u00fcz veya g\u00fcvenilir oldu\u011funa kanaat getirdi\u011fimiz ki\u015filerin anlatt\u0131klar\u0131 ger\u00e7eklere dayanmaktad\u0131r<\/em> (s. 33)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Carpini eserini her ne kadar a\u00e7\u0131k ve net bir \u015fekilde ortaya koymu\u015f olsa da; iyi bir \u00e7evirinin rehberli\u011fi e\u015fli\u011finde anlat\u0131lanlar\u0131n daha muhteval\u0131 bir yap\u0131ya b\u00fc\u00adr\u00fc\u00adnece\u011fi a\u00e7\u0131kt\u0131r. Sadece \u00e7eviri a\u015famas\u0131nda kalarak akademik kimli\u011fi olan eserler bir\u00e7ok konunun a\u00e7\u0131kta kalmas\u0131na neden olaca\u011f\u0131ndan, \u00e7evirenin m\u00fc\u00adda\u00adhaleleri had safhada \u00f6nemlidir. Orta\u00e7a\u011f\u2019da eserle\u00adrin \u00e7o\u011fu zaman efsanelere ili\u015fkin bilgiler sayesinde ger\u00e7ekten uzak bir anla\u00ady\u0131\u015fla kaleme al\u0131nd\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00fc\u015f\u00fcn\u00fcl\u00fcrse; \u00e7evirmenin esatiri ay\u0131klayan profesyonel tavr\u0131 daha fazla \u00f6nem kazanmaktad\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00c7eviri a\u00e7\u0131k, anla\u015f\u0131l\u0131r ve iyi bir T\u00fcrk\u00e7eye sahip olup, tarih kitaplar\u0131nda s\u0131k\u00e7a rastlanan a\u011f\u0131r anla\u015f\u0131lmas\u0131 g\u00fc\u00e7 anlat\u0131m \u00f6zelli\u011fine ait unsurlar yok denecek ka\u00addar azd\u0131r. Dipnotlarda sunulan zengin i\u00e7eri\u011fin iyi bir \u00e7al\u0131\u015fman\u0131n \u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fc oldu\u011fu, kitab\u0131n sonundaki kaynak\u00e7a ile belirgin k\u0131l\u0131nmaktad\u0131r. Carpini\u2019nin vermi\u015f ol\u00addu\u00ad\u011fu bilgiler, dipnotlar vas\u0131tas\u0131yla d\u00f6nemi anlatan ba\u015fka kaynaklardaki bilgi\u00adlerle kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131r\u0131l\u0131p, okuyucunun objektif \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fctlerle karar almas\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6n\u00fc a\u00e7\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Yine Carpini\u2019nin es ge\u00e7ti\u011fi, fakat konu b\u00fct\u00fcnl\u00fc\u011f\u00fc a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan zikredil\u00admesi zaruri bilgiler dipnotlarla sunulmu\u015ftur. Dipnotlarla ilgili g\u00f6ze batan tek olumsuzluk ise; \u00e7evirinin ana metni kadar dikkatli ve imlaya uygun bir \u015fekilde kaleme al\u0131nmad\u0131\u011f\u0131d\u0131r. Ana metindeki kusursuzluk dikkate al\u0131nd\u0131\u011f\u0131nda, tezat olu\u015fturan bu g\u00f6r\u00fcn\u00fcm dikkat \u00e7eken bir husustur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eser biri sunu\u015f olmak \u00fczere toplam on b\u00f6l\u00fcmden olu\u015fmaktad\u0131r. \u00d6zellikle \u00e7evirenin seyahatnamenin ana \u00e7er\u00e7evesini g\u00f6stermesi a\u00e7\u0131s\u0131ndan haz\u0131rlam\u0131\u015f oldu\u011fu sunu\u015f k\u0131sm\u0131; genel bir perspektif sunarak okuyucuyu konuya \u0131s\u0131nd\u0131r\u00admaktad\u0131r. Sunu\u015f k\u0131sm\u0131 alt\u0131nda ele al\u0131nan Carpini\u2019nin hayat\u0131, el\u00e7ilik mektuplar\u0131 ve \u00e7eviriye esas bu mektuplar\u0131n resimleri Carpini\u2019nin genel yorumlar\u0131yla b\u00fc\u00adt\u00fcnl\u00fck i\u00e7inde sunulmu\u015ftur. Carpini seyahatine ili\u015fkin detaylara son b\u00f6l\u00fcmde de\u011finirken, bu k\u0131sma kadar t\u00fcm y\u00f6nleriyle ele al\u0131nm\u0131\u015f bir Mo\u011fol Tarihi ortaya koyulmu\u015ftur. Ayr\u0131 ba\u015fl\u0131klar alt\u0131nda Mo\u011follar ve Mo\u011folistan hakk\u0131nda co\u011frafi, sosyal, k\u00fclt\u00fcrel, siyasi, askeri, dini ve tarihi bilgiler verilmi\u015ftir. Eserin zengin bilgi i\u00e7eri\u011fine sahip olmas\u0131, ana referans kayna\u011f\u0131 olarak de\u011ferlendirilmesine neden olurken, ayn\u0131 zamanda Mo\u011follar hakk\u0131nda kalem oynatanlar\u0131n ba\u015fvur\u00admadan ge\u00e7emeyecekleri kadar \u00f6nemli bir stat\u00fcde konumlanmas\u0131na, neden olmu\u015ftur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eserde yer alan baz\u0131 \u00f6zel bilgilerin Mo\u011follar ile ilgili literat\u00fcrdeki ba\u015fka kay\u00adnaklarda yer almamas\u0131, eserin k\u0131ymetini kan\u0131tlamaktad\u0131r. S\u0131rf bu y\u00f6n\u00fcyle bile yap\u0131lan yorumlar ekseninde yeni eserlerin kaleme al\u0131nmas\u0131 i\u00e7in seyahat\u00adname belirgin bir \u00e7\u0131k\u0131\u015f noktas\u0131 olmaktad\u0131r. Carpini elde etti\u011fi bilgileri sunarken, yoruma fazla ba\u015fvurmaks\u0131\u00adz\u0131n hareket etmektedir. K\u00fclt\u00fcr ve insanlar ile ilgili yap\u0131lm\u0131\u015f olan betimlemele\u00adrin gayet zengin ve ayr\u0131nt\u0131 i\u00e7erdi\u011fi g\u00f6zden ka\u00e7mamaktad\u0131r. Yine Mo\u011follar\u0131n tarihine ili\u015f\u00adkin bilgilerin detay i\u00e7ermesi ge\u00e7mi\u015f gelecek ekseninde, kilisenin strateji belir\u00adlemesi amac\u0131na binaen verildi\u011fi a\u00e7\u0131kt\u0131r.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eserin dokuzuncu ve son b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fc ise seyahatin nas\u0131l oldu\u011funa ayr\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.
