Review: Ernle Bradford\u2019s The Great Siege: Malta 1565, 1961, its New Subtitle of 2010-2019, Clash of Cultures: Christian Knights Defend Western Civilization Against the Moslem Tide, and the Deliberate Omission of 16th c. Burmola (Burmula-Bormola-Bormla-Cospicua) – A Best-Selling Falsification of History in the 21st Century<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract:<\/strong> This review addresses the questionable practice of adding a subtitle to an author\u2019s work after his death, and questions the terms employed in this newly added subtitle. It then enquires into the omis\u00adsion of mention a place from the author\u2019s 1961 published account of the 1565 siege. The omission of a settlement that at the time of the siege was known as, Burmola, the location of the \u201cCampo di Turchi\u201d, the Ottoman-Muslim camp after the taking of Fort St. Elmo on the 23rd of June 1565. It suggests the rea\u00adson for the omission of this toponym from this book was due to the author\u2019s relationship with the politics in Malta at the time the book was being written in the late 1950\u2019s, it being the birthplace and power base of Dom Mintoff. The consequences of the omission of this toponym from this historical bestseller have had consequences over the past 60 years in peoples\u2019 perception of the city and of the history of Burmo\u00adla\/Bormla\/Cospicua, and have had consequences in terms of the preservation of heritage in this city.<\/p>\n

Ele\u015ftiride ele al\u0131nacak ikinci konu da yazar\u0131n 1961 tarihli ilk bask\u0131da Osmanl\u0131 ordusunun St. Elmo kalesini 23 Haziran 1565\u2019de ele ge\u00e7irdikten sonra kamp kurdu\u011fu (Campo di Turchi) Burmola kasabas\u0131 anlat\u0131s\u0131nda tamamen yok saym\u0131\u015f ol\u00admas\u0131d\u0131r. Bunun nedeni kasaban\u0131n, kitab\u0131n yaz\u0131ld\u0131\u011f\u0131 1950\u2019lerde Malta politikas\u0131nda etkin olan Dom Min\u00adtoff\u2019un do\u011fum yeri olmas\u0131 ve yazar\u0131n politik ba\u011flar\u0131n\u0131n bu konuda etken olmas\u0131d\u0131r. Kasaban\u0131n isminin (Burmola\/Bormla\/Cospicua) bu \u00e7ok satan tarihi yay\u0131nda zikredilmemesi ge\u00e7ti\u011fimiz 60 y\u0131l i\u00e7inde kentin alg\u0131\u00ads\u0131 ve tarihi \u00fczerinde buna ba\u011fl\u0131 olarak da tarihi miras\u0131n\u0131n korunmas\u0131 konusunda olumsuz etkileri olmu\u015ftur.<\/p>\n
