Abstract: This article presents three new votive inscriptions from Phaselis. The first inscription was carved on a pedestal that had been reused as spolia in repairs made in Late Antiquity on the main street of the city, which descends to the Central Harbour. It is dedicated to Apollon Epidamos. Since the epithet Epidamos was first documented for Apollon at Phaselis, the present study firstly focuses on the meaning of the epithet and its usage for Demeter, and then tries to analyse the connection of the epithet with Apollon and Phaselis. The second inscription is a votive stele dedicated to Artemis Pergaia by a foreign couple (metoikoi) living in Phaselis, which was found in front of pier no. A9 during the excavations carried out at the piers of the Phaselis aquaeducts. The final inscription is dedicated to Hephaistos and was recovered as a surface find between the Tetragonal Agora and the south wall of the Great Bath. The votive inscription of Hephaistos, documented for the first time at Phaselis has been analysed in a multifaceted way in relation to the settlements and the hinterland where the god was worshipped, and the god’s connection with the city of Phaselis is evaluated.

Keywords: Phaselis, Votive Inscriptions, Apollon Epidamos, Artemis Pergaia, Hephaistos

Abstract: This article presents four new inscriptions recorded during the 2024 excavation season in Olympos: 1) The Tomb of Epiktesis and his Family 2) The Tomb of Midas and his Family 3) The Tomb of Zosimos and his Family, and 4) The Tomb of a person(s), whose name(s) is/are unknown. These four tomb inscriptions were uncovered and documented in the area known as the North Necropolis of the city. The first inscription is not in situ; however, since it was found within the North Necropolis, it is thought not to have come from a distant location and probably belongs to this area. Each inscription has been assessed individually within its context. In addition to these assessments, this article provides a brief explanation of the burial penalties commonly found in the tomb inscriptions of Olympos and includes information concerning where these fines were paid to and the amounts involved.

Abstract: This article presents new five votive inscriptions discovered during surveys conducted in the provinces of Sakarya and Bilecik since 2010. Three of these inscriptions are dedicated to Zeus Bronton, one to Zeus Gorzaios and the last is simply addressed to Zeus without any additional attribution (qualifying adjective). The first two inscriptions were found in close proximity to each other and suggest a new cult area for Zeus Bronton based on their location and content. Inscription number three is likely related to the recently discovered Zeus Bronton cult area in the village of Ahmetler. Inscription number four is particularly interesting, as it marks the first time the “Gorzaios” attribute, previously seen only with Apollo, is mentioned alongside Zeus. This shows “Gorzaios” attribute is not unique to Apollo. Inscription number five is a typical votive inscription that mentions only Zeus. This article introduces these five new inscriptions, along with their contents: 1) Votive offering of Claudius Ba— to Zeus Bronton; 2) Votive offering of Claudius Secundus to Zeus Bronton; 3) Votive offering of Glaukias and Lucius to Zeus Bronton; 4) Votive offering of Domitius Stephanos to Zeus Gorzaios; 5) Votive offering of Alexander to Zeus.

Öz: Bu makalede 2010 yılından bu yana Sakarya ve Bilecik illerinde yürütülen yüzey araştırmalarında keşfedilen yeni beş adak yazıtı tanıtılmaktadır. Bu yazıtlardan üçü Zeus Bronton’a, biri Zeus Gorzaios’a, sonuncu yazıt ise herhangi bir ek atıfta (niteleyci sıfatta) bulunulmadan sadece Zeus’a adanmıştır. Bu makalede bu beş yeni yazıtı içerikleriyle birlikte tanıtmaktadır: 1) Claudius Ba—’nın Zeus Bronton’a adağı; 2) Claudius Secundus’un Zeus Bronton’a adağı; 3) Glaukias ve Lucius’un Zeus Bronton’a adağı; 4) Aleksandros’un Zeus’a adağı; 5) Domitius Stephanos’un Zeus Gorzaios’a adağı.

Abstract: This article presents a new reading of a published inscription from Mylasa. The inscription is a dedication of an altar to an emperor and Zeus Olympios by the inhabitants of a street, for the sake of honoring Dionysides son of Demetrios, the olympic victor (olympionikes). It was engraved on a white marble round altar with profiles above and below. The inscription was published by Ph. Le Bas in 1870 and subsequently by G. Cousin in 1898, afterwards it was revised by L. Robert in 1937 and by W. Blümel in 1987. In December 2023, the altar was refound in Mylasa (modern Milas) in the garden of a private house and it was brought to Milas Museum. The new study has enabled a substantial reading of the lines 1-2 and 4-5 which were undecipherable in the earlier editions. The new reading of the lines 1-2 indicates that the altar was dedicated to Augustus and Zeus Olympios, therefore the inscription should be dated to the reign of Augustus. Besides, the lines 4-5 clarify that the dedicators of the altar were “the inhabitants of a mesoplateia” (mesoplateitai) from “the street of Labraunda” (plateia Labraundike). The street of Labraunda (plateia Labraundike) is attested for the first time in inscriptions of Mylasa. More importantly, mesoplateites (inhabitant of a mesoplateia) is a new word, which is not known from any literary or epigraphic document.

Keywords: Mylasa, Dedication, Altar, Olympionikai, Augustus, Street of Labraunda

Abstract: The tombstone bearing Jewish symbols such as menorah, shofar, etrog and lulav, accompanied by a Hebrew inscription reading shalom and an ancient Greek inscription comprising two lines, was found in the garden of two buildings belonging to H. M. Aydoğdu, in the locality designated “Omarcı (Ömerci) Village” situated in the district of Şarkikaraağaç, Isparta. With the type of stone of the artefact it is an uncommon find for Şarkikaraağaç, Yalvaç and its surroundings. At the beginning of the research, it was noted that the tombstone was presented by T. Drew-Bear in 1993 at the “XIth Survey Results Meeting”, and it was determined that the original findspot of the tombstone was Afyonkarahisar / İscehisar. In 2004, the inscription was incorporated into a corpus by W. Ameling, which included Jewish inscriptions from Asia Minor. The studies that have been carried out thus far have not evaluated the reliefs and the iconography of the stele. Thus it would be beneficial to undertake a comprehensive revision of the work and present it to the scientific community in a more holistic manner, with a synthesis of both archaeological and epigraphic perspectives.

Keywords: Jewish Tombstone, Menorah, Hebrew, Ancient Greek Inscription, Phrygia, Koimeterion

Abstract: This article presents a new inscription discovered during the Nysa ad Maeandrum excavations in 2020. In this epigraphic document, Neikostrate, also known as Eutykhiane, a member of a noble family of Nysa ad Maendrum, is honoured by her hometown of Nysa for her virtue and nobility. Neikostrate, the daughter of Publius Aelius Iunius Marcianus, is mentioned as descended from archiereis and stephanephoroi. Although the inscription does not directly provide information on whether Neikostrate and the mentioned member of the family fulfilled any offices in the city, the expression of “ἀρχιερέων καὶ στεφανηφόρων ἐγγόνων” which referred to sacred and eponymous offices in the inscription will provide an effective view in the evaluation of the inscription and social status of the family. Subsequently, in consideration of the fact that Nysa ad Maendrum has remarkable epigraphical data concerning elite women, the limited information related to Neikostrate’s civic position is evaluated in the context of Nysaean noble women.

Keywords: Nysa ad Maeandrum, Neikostrate alias Eutychiane, Nysaean Noble Women, Arhiereia, Stephanephoria

Abstract: This article revisits a few honorary inscriptions from Kibyra and discusses the identities of the persons mentioned in these inscriptions. In particular, it rediscusses how the name of the honouree in inscription I.Kibyra 40 could be restored and then shows that a posthumous honorary inscription for a Flavia Tata, published in 2019, does not, contrary to its editor’s argument, confirm the existence of a person named Krateros, son of Flavius Krateros, supposedly honoured in I.Kibyra 40. Furthermore, it is argued that the inscription honouring Flavia Tata should be dated to the Ist century A.D. or to the beginning of the IInd century A.D. at the very latest, not to the end of the IInd century A.D. Finally, the adjective ἁγνός, ή, όν, which is only rarely used for women in the honourary inscriptions of Asia Minor, is examined, and the possible reasons why the demos chose this adjective to describe the qualities of Flavia Tata are explored.

Keywords: Kibyra, Flavius Krateros, Flavia Tata, asiarch, Xouamoas/Souamoas, ἁγνός
